The Influence of Board Diversity and Board Conflict on Performance in Consumer Cooperatives in South Korea

Board of directors are important elements in the structure and management cooperatives. This study examines relationships between cooperative board diversity (i.e., value functional) three performance variables (social performance, operational democratic performance). Additionally, we hypothesize that conflict (task or relational) mediates these relationships. We argue decision making, policy, depend on composition a board. The empirical analysis, using sample 423 female members 66 local consumer cooperatives South Korea, finds can have negative effect even though their functional background may be positive, while conflicts over performing tasks mediate performance. More specifically, results indicate is positive significantly related to relational conflicts, task conflicts. findings suggest improved with more diverse backgrounds. hope this paper could offer significant contribution both corporate governance literature literature.
